Upholstery Cleaning

upholstery cleaning service iconFurniture offers function and style. It can be seating or storage. Upholstered furniture can be comfortable or contemporary.

No matter its purpose or design, all upholstered furniture has one thing in common, it will get dirty and will require upholstery cleaning.

Couches, recliners, arm chairs, sectionals, love seats and other upholstered furniture are subject to a lot of use and a lot of abuse in homes with children or pets.

Unless your home has a strict food rule in place, there is a good chance your furniture has had a drink or two spilled on it. If you’re pet is allowed on the couch, it’s almost guaranteed to be covered in pet hair.

New furniture can look old fast if not properly cleaned and cared for. The good news is, upholstered furniture cleaned by Champion Chem-Dry will look brand new, no matter how old it is.

Champion Chem-Dry has years of experience in upholstery cleaning in Brevard County, FL. We’ve removed countless common household stains from furniture, including red wine, coffee and nail polish. Our methods are great for removing pet hair from furniture too.

Upholstery Cleaning Process

For upholstery cleaning, Champion Chem-Dry uses the same concept as our carpet cleaning service. The equipment is different, but the effect is the same.

We use the power of carbonation and The Natural®, our green-certified cleaning solution, to lift dirt and soil from deep within the upholstery fibers to the surface of the fabric where it is then sucked away with our powerful suction system. It’s powerful enough to suck up pet hair too!

As mentioned above, the secret to Chem-Dry’s drier, healthier upholstery cleaning is the millions of tiny effervescent cleaning bubbles in our green-certifed cleaner we call The Natural.

The Natural® carbonating solutions penetrate deep into the base of the carpet, literally exploding dirt and grime off of the fiber’s surface. Then, we use hot water extraction to lift the dirty particles to the surface where they are whisked away. Chem-Dry’s safe, non-toxic solutions actually help your fabrics stay as clean as when they were new.

As you can see, Champion Chem-Dry does not require the use of excessive amounts of water or soap for successful upholstery cleaning. Our methods are healthier, drier and cleaner and your furniture is ready to use again not long after we leave.

You will notice with traditional carpet shampooers and upholstery cleaners that resoiling can occur if too much soap is used. Because we don’t leave soap behind in your furniture, stains won’t return and your upholstery will look amazing for weeks to come.

Champion Chem-Dry can also add a Protector shield to the upholstery that will create a repellant barrier to both water and oil and other liquid-based materials. Call us for more information at (321) 206-1988.

Protector Package:

  • Restores manufacturer-applied stain guard that breaks down and fades over time.
  • Forms protective shield around upholstered furniture fibers.
  • Repels most stains, allowing a window of opportunity for you to soak up the spill on your own before it adheres to the furniture fibers.
  • Works with a wide range of furniture materials.

As is the case with our carpet cleaning service, we recommend having your furniture cleaned professionally once a year or once every six months if the piece is heavily used or you live with children or pets. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, we’d recommend even more regular scheduled cleanings.

Champion Chem-Dry Offers Unique Advantages:

Upholstery Cleaning For Allergies

According to our recent Home Health Study, the Chem-Dry upholstery cleaning process removes 98% of allergens from upholstery and carpet.

Upholstered furniture essentially acts as a larger filter, storing the allergens, particles and contaminants that float onto its surface. While it’s better for those allergens to be in your furniture than in the air you are breathing, you will ultimately still want them removed from your home.

Allergy and asthma sufferers can ensure healthier air quality in their home when they choose Champion Chem-Dry for upholstery cleaning.

How to Keep Furniture Clean

Vacuuming: Vacuuming isn’t just for carpet, especially with the new-and-improved vacuum cleaners on the market today. Most canister vacuums come equipped with several handheld attachments, including brushes, perfect for running across your furniture’s upholstery.

Regularly vacuuming your furniture will prevent a buildup of pet hair, dirt and germs that could potentially soil your furniture’s cushions and fabric over time.

Be sure to get down into the cracks between the cushions and the back as well as their may be dirt that has fallen there unknown to you.

Throw Pillows: It’s very easy to maintain the quality of your decorative pillows. In order to keep pillows clean and fluffy, simply toss them in the clothes drier once or twice a month. Doing so should knock off a lot of dust with having to lift a finger.

Slip Covers: If you live in a home with pets or children, it might be impossible to avoid some spills or pet hair. Therefore, if you truly want to protect your furniture upholstery, it might be a good decision to purchase arm rests or a slip cover.

Slip covers are designed to fit over an entire piece of furniture and come in a variety of colors or patterns to match your décor. When a slip cover gets extremely dirty, you can remove it very easily and clean it in your washer and drier.

It is impossible to prevent furniture from getting dirty over time, but by vacuuming your upholstery on a regular basis, putting your throw pillows in the drier and using slip covers whenever possible, you should be able to limit the amount of dirt and wear your furniture is subjected to.

Doing so will increase the lifetime of the upholstery and increase the amount of time between necessary professional cleaning appointments.

To prevent stains on your furniture, it is recommended that you not allow family or guests to eat our drink on or near the furniture. Although, even with strict rules in place, accidents do tend to still happen, especially in homes with children and pets.

DIY Furniture Cleaning & Stain Removal

Champion Chem-Dry does not recommend attempting to clean your furniture or upholstered items on your own. Each piece of furniture and fabric is unique and requires different techniques in order to assure it is cleaned properly and safely.

Each piece of furniture has a manufacturer’s tag with upholstery codes assigned to it stating what types of chemicals and cleaning solvents can or cannot be used on the fabric. If you misread the tags or don’t understand them, serious damage to your upholstery could occur.

You also run the risk of using too much water. If upholstery gets too wet it will create a mildew smell that can be hard to remove. And, for some fabrics, there is a chance that shrinking will occur if it is subjected to too much water.

Do not attempt to clean wool, linen or silk upholstery. These fabrics are extremely delicate and require professional attention.

Champion Chem-Dry is highly trained in cleaning all upholstery and will get the job done right without damage. When it comes to upholstery cleaning in Melbourne, Palm Bay, Rockledge and Brevard County, trust the professionals at Champion Chem-Dry.

If you do attempt to clean your own furniture or remove upholstery stains on your own, be sure to reference the upholstery code prior to using any kind of cleaning chemical or soap.

Understanding Upholstery Cleaning Codes

Upholstery cleaning codes are found on tags that are typically located somewhere out of sight on the furniture. Usually you can find the tag beneath a cushion or attached to the bottom of one of the cushions.

Upholstery cleaning codes indicate exactly what cleaning solutions to use to clean the furniture based on the fabric. Here are examples of the codes you might find on the tag:

W: If you see a “W” on the tag, that means you will only want to clean the upholstery fabric using a water-based cleaning solution or detergent.

S: A “S” on the tag indicates that the fabric should only be cleaned with a water-free solution, such as a dry cleaning solvent of some type.

WS (or SW): Furniture that is marked “WS” is the best type of furniture if you intend to clean your furniture yourself or have children or pets and anticipate a lot of spills and stains. “WS” means that the upholstery fabric can be cleaned with either a water-based or water-free cleaning solution.

X: Don’t attempt to clean furniture where a “X” is present on the tag. A “X” upholstery cleaning code means that the fabric can only be cleaned by a professional cleaner. Furniture that is marked “X” should be reserved for more decorative purposes and are not ideal for homes with children or pets.

If you can’t find the tag on your furniture or if it was removed at some point, you will want to test both water-based and water-free cleaning solutions on an inconspicuous area of the furniture. Perhaps the back of the furniture if it faces the wall? Once you have determined which solution is safe to use, you can then attempt to clean the stain.
